There are special pictures in the Zillehaus. They don’t hang on the wall, but are hidden in the walls, windows and floor and can be discovered in every nook and cranny. On Wednesday, December 4 from 3 pm to 6 pm, artist Jelena Fužinato, in collaboration with the Zilleklub, invites you to draw together. We will draw whatever we feel like and create a large picture together from our stories. You don’t need to bring any materials, just a desire to draw together. Participation is free of charge!
“Got-Miau-Miau-Avatar-Mother” is a collaborative art-in-architecture project at the Zillehaus children’s and youth recreation center in Berlin-Moabit, in which over 200 people were involved in making pencil drawings. The project was initiated and carried out by the artist Jelena Fužinato and resulted from various series of drawings between 2022-2023, during which around 250 sketches were created. These sketches were then engraved into the surfaces of the Zille House, creating an interactive experience for viewers. The compiled archive of drawings gives an insight into the current local history, in which Jelena Fužinato does not allow for any evaluation, (too strong) classification or hierarchy in the structure. Through the method of frottage (rubbing a pencil or ballpoint pen over a piece of paper that is placed over the engraving to copy it), visitors can copy selected drawings and take them home with them. You can find out more about the Kunst am Bau under the following link: Zille-Haus children’s and youth recreation center – art in urban space.
Jelena Fužinato works with drawings and installations to investigate authoritarian relationships within institutions such as the family, schools, museums and states. Fužinato deals with real events, but treats and presents them speculatively and fictitiously. The works and methods she chooses are often at odds with central narratives and speak about the socially marginalized positions of things and living beings. Her multi-layered approach brings together existing references and fabricated information to generate new metaphorical narratives.
The open drawing workshop is an event organized by the Department of Art, Culture and History of the Berlin Mitte District Office in cooperation with the Zillehaus youth and leisure facility.
