Consultation for Art in Urban Space

14. Jan – 09. Dec 2025

The 30-minute consultation takes place on Tuesdays via video call (or alternatively by telephone) as required.

Public space is a prerequisite for urban coexistence. It offers space for different uses and interest groups. This also includes art and culture in urban spaces, which can contribute to their aesthetic and discursive impact.

The complex requirements for public spaces are implemented taking into account numerous issues such as road space usage, noise protection, flora and fauna, and monument protection. The associated legal framework stipulates that public spaces may only be used with a special permit in the form of a special use permit. For the realization of temporary cultural and artistic projects in public spaces in Berlin’s Mitte district, an application for a special permit must therefore be submitted to the licensing authority, the Straßen- und Grünflächenamt des Bezirksamts Mitte von Berlin.

The Stadtkultur Department offers free consultations on art and culture in urban spaces every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., as needed. Artists, curators, and cultural professionals have the opportunity to clarify questions regarding the approval of their artistic projects for public spaces in the Mitte district prior to submitting their applications.
