Children and youth leisure centre Zille-Haus

On September 9, 2021, the jury met for the non-open, single-phase, anonymous Kunst am Bau competition in connection with a complete interior renovation of the Zille Haus children’s and youth leisure facility in Berlin-Moabit. The artists Tina Born, Jelena Fuzinato, Idan Hayosh and Anett Lau were invited to take part in the competition. Chaired by artist Seraphina Lenz, the jury discussed all the submitted artistic designs in detail and unanimously recommended the realization of the design „ohne Titel (Gravuren)“ by artist Jelena Fuzinato.

The Zille-Haus at Rathenower Str. 17 in 10559 Berlin is a children’s and youth leisure facility with an adjoining theater area, a family center and a youth counseling center. In connection with the renovation project, the Mitte district office of Berlin, Department of Further Education, Culture, Environment, Nature, Streets, Green Spaces/ Department of Art, Culture and History, in cooperation with the Department of School, Sport & Facility Management/ SE Facility Management and the Department of Youth, Family and Citizen Services of the Youth Welfare Office of Berlin, announced a non-open, single-phase, anonymous art competition. The aim of the art competition was to develop an independent piece of art on the building designed for this building complex that artistically explores the location and its use.

The construction project is being funded by the Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing as part of the Socially Integrative City program to the tune of 4.63 million euros. A total of 20,000.00 euros is available for the implementation of the art on the building.

Voting members of the jury were the artists Seraphina Lenz, Beatrice Schuett Moumdjian and Ulrich Vogl as well as Marek Marczynski, employee of the Zilleklub and Ramona Reiser, District Councillor for Youth, Family and Citizen Services at the Berlin Mitte District Office. Alona Rodeh was the permanent deputy expert judge. The competition was supervised by the artist Stefka Ammon.
