On 15 March 2019, the jury met to judge the restricted ‘Art in Architecture’ competition relating to the refurbishment and extension of the Fanny Hensel Music School on Ruheplatzstraße. The jury recommended that the design by artist Esther Ernst be implemented.
The existing building of the Fanny Hensel Music School on Ruheplatzstraße is to be renovated and extended, with the spaces adapted to music school teaching, taking into account the latest requirements in terms of content and specific room acoustics. The extension will add 438 square metres of floor space. In connection with the ‘Renovation and Extension of the Fanny Hensel Music School’ project, the Mitte District Office in Berlin organised a restricted, single-stage design competition.
Art-in-Architecture Competition
The artists Esther Ernst, Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Hester Oerlemans and Miguel Rothschild were invited to take part in the competition. Chaired by the artist Kathrin Glanz, the jury discussed all the submitted artistic designs in detail and recommended that the design “Drawing for Three Pauses, Inserted” by the artist Esther Ernst be realised.
